Set up by Dorans in Howth in 2015, the idea for Doran’s Skippers Mate is something that has developed over the last number of years. It is in response to the ever increasing demands put on Owners and Skippers of fishing vessels by the many and varied authorities responsible for the fishing industry in Ireland. Agencies such as the MSO (Marine Survey Office), SFPA (Sea Fisheries Protection Agency), HSA (Health & Safety Authority), HSE (Health & Safety Executive) oversee the industry and we are here to assist fishermen comply with these body’s requirements.

 

In recent times we began to find that even with our resources at our fish factory, shop and office on the West Pier in Howth and keeping a single fishing trawler “The Celtic Fisher” in full compliance was becoming a full time job.  Having had many conversations with many Skippers and Owner in relation to this, the question began to arise as to when the trawlers would have time go to sea and actually get down to the business of catching fish.
